Summer Reward Program: Part 3, Half-Way

Soooo, we made it to the half-way point of our Summer Rewards Program.  Half-way in regards to points earned, and we only have 3 weeks left, but knowing TrentMan he will want to go all the way up until school starts, so then we'll have 4 weeks.

If this is your first time to FLF....WELCOME!  You're probably completely clueless as to these points I'm speaking of.  For the second year, I've developed a summer rewards program to reward my son by doing various things, such as, reading, chores, writing a book report, doing math papers, etc.  Visit this post to see how I set up the program.

On Monday evening, TrentMan reached the 500 point level and the reward was.....ice-cream for dinner!  So, yesterday on the hottest day in 22 years, I took my child to get his ice cream....or frozen yogurt.  He decided he wanted to have Red Mango, a frozen yogurt place where you get to choose all of your toppings and they weigh it up for you...oh boy.  I let TrentMan make it himself and he created a Ghirardelli Chocoloate, Madagascar Bean Vanilla, and blueberry frozen yogurt with sprinkles, Fruity Pebbles, gummy bears and cookies treat.  By the time he was done, he wasn't sure what it tasted like, but he was happy and proud.  As he ate his yogurt, I praised him and told him how proud I was of him.  Most importantly, I let him know that if he was going to earn another 500 points to get a puppy, then he had to work double hard over this next 3-4 weeks.

This is the point in the program, where I really start to remind him to do things to earn points, I make suggestions, and I crack down, especially since I know he's really trying to earn that puppy.  I also give him a realistic outlook: At this point, can you realistically get to the level you're trying to reach?

More than half of the summer is gone, and we have yet to practice any math, and we've only practiced cursive once.  I'm very concerned about this because these are two huge areas of just about any 3rd Grade program.  I've also started to pray over this coming school year in regards to our diligence and organization, TrentMan's confidence and perseverance, and many other areas.

I just pray God rewards his diligence over this summer and boosts him up where we fell short in our best efforts.

***Click this link to go to a great site to practice math.  I tried it last year, and it was very helpful.  Sometimes it's easier to just hop on the computer versus break out a workbook and find a page.

How are your reward programs?  How are you enriching the children in your life?

  2. Yeah, we have a lot of fun with it! It's also his choice if he wants to earn the points to get the rewards. The only thing I make him do is chores.
